DIY Plumbing | When to Call a Plumber

February 28, 2019 | Blog

plumbing repairsWhat homeowner doesn’t love a good DIY project? We definitely understand the drive to get your hands dirty and do work on your home yourself, but there are some projects when it’s best to call a plumber. There’s nothing worse than already being halfway through a project and realizing that you’re in over your head. At this point in a serious plumbing job, the water is usually turned off leaving you with no running water until a plumber can make it out to your home. We’ll run through a few serious jobs that are best left to the professionals.

  1. Replacing or moving major fixtures like sinks or bathtubs – Moving major fixture is a huge job and if done incorrectly could cause leaks and water damage in your home. A licensed plumber will make sure that new installation is safe and up to code as well.
  2. Water heater installations – Whether your new water runs on gas or electricity, this is a job that you don’t want to do yourself. Improperly installing a water heater could be very dangerous and cause serious damage to the water heater or your home.
  3. Serious clogs – Put down that chemical drain cleaner! We know drain cleaners can seem like an easy and quick fix for drain clogs, but the chemicals in drain cleaners can harm your pipes and cause irreparable damage to them. If you’re dealing with serious sewage backups, then it’s best to call a plumber to deal with the root cause of the problem.
  4. Sewer line replacement – There are a lot of strict building codes concerning your sewer line that will be hard to comply with on your own. Leave the sewer line repair up to the professionals rather than trying to tackle this one on your own. Most plumbing companies also offer trenchless sewer repair services so you can replace your sewer lines without unsightly trenches all over your property.
