Make Certain You Have Hot Water in a Cold Winter
If your hot water heater is past its prime, you’ve probably been looking at your options. Should you stay with a traditional tank-style water heater or make the move to a tankless water heater. There are advantages and disadvantages to both types of systems—there’s not one that’s best for everyone. In this blog, we look at the reasons you might want to convert to a tankless water heater.
The Benefits of a Tankless Water Heater
One of the more obvious advantages of a tankless water heater is the amount of space it saves in your house. The entire unit will typically fit inside a space not much larger than a shoebox. Because of the minimal amount of space needed, you can typically put it in a small space not being used for something else, such as a closet or a cupboard.
Though a tankless water heater will usually cost more to install, as you often have to make modifications to your existing plumbing and the unit is still a bit more expensive than a traditional tank-style water heater, it’s more efficient, so you stand to actually save money in the long run. Because you’ll only use energy when you use water, your energy costs should be significantly less (traditional tank-style water heaters have to periodically reheat the water in the tank to keep it hot.) If you’re building a new home or can install a tankless without making significant medications to your home, it will customarily pay benefits in the long run.
Because the tankless water heater has fewer moving parts, and because it’s not storing water, it’s less susceptible to breakdown and deterioration due to rust or other factors. Accordingly, it typically has a longer lifespan.
