Dallas Area Plumbers – Repair, Installation, Maintenance
We’re very fortunate in the United States. When most of us need water, we simply turn on a faucet or throw our clothes in the washer. As a result, many would be surprised to learn that only 1% of the earth’s water is actually available for human use or consumption. Additionally, fresh water supplies are not limitless. This means development will continue to put pressure on usable water sources in the years and decades to come.
The WaterSense Program – Why what We do now is Important
In order to address the increasingly pressing problem of our nation’s water supply, the Environmental Protection Agency created the WaterSense program. This program brings various stakeholders together in order to promote increased water efficiency, innovation in manufacturing, new ways to save water, and the easing of environmental pressures on water sources.
In order to achieve these goals, WaterSense assists consumers in making smarter choices regarding appliances and other products they buy that use water. In this way, WaterSense seeks to promote environmental standards without sacrificing the performance of toilets, washers, manufacturing processes, showers, or home heating systems. Towards this end, products or services that are 20% more efficient, while maintaining desired performance levels, are certified with the WaterSense label.
The WaterSense Label: What it means
Products that are 20% more efficient than similar products in their category will have the WaterSense label displayed on them. To date, consumers can find a WaterSense label on the following kinds of products that meet the requirements of the program:
- Certain new homes
- Bathroom sinks
- Faucets
- Showerheads
- Toilets
- Urinals
- Irrigation controllers
As an ongoing initiative, the WaterSense program will increase the number and kinds of products eligible to receive the WaterSense label, providing consumers and manufacturers with an incentive to choose technology and products that increase water efficiency.
Residential Homes – Where WaterSense meets the ENERGY STAR Program
New homes provide a great opportunity for families to take advantage of both the WaterSense and ENERGY STAR programs. In regard to the former, bathroom faucets, showerheads, toilets, and plumbing fixtures can be installed with WaterSense-certified products. Supplementing these towards even greater efficiency are ENERGY STAR-certified hot water heaters, washers and dishwashers.
