Repiping Your Home

Dallas Plumbers • Repiping • Home Plumbing

Perhaps you’ve bought a “fixer-up” or pipe_fitting you live in an older home. If your pipes are polybutylene, kitec, pex, copper, or galvanized, you may need to repipe your house. What determines if you need a repipe? While each case is different, there are certain problems associated with each kind of pipe in homes built before the 1970s. In the case of polybutylene, kitec, and pex, pipes fitted with yellow fittings have caused leaks and flooding. Older copper and galvanized pipes can corrode, resulting in leaks and decreased water pressure and flow. When corrosion reaches a certain point, rust can cause discolored water, further eating away at pipes and fixtures in the home.

Repiping Your Home – Do-it-Yourself or a Job for a Plumber?

There are a fair number of “do-it-yourself” websites out there on everything from plumbing, to hot water installation, to electrical wiring. While many of these websites make home repair look manageable for the average person, there are almost always unanticipated problems in any job. Plus, if you do a repipe yourself, you may need to pull a permit. If you don’t pull a permit and a leak develops later, your homeowners insurance may not cover the damage. Even if you manage to complete the job without a problem, when it comes time to sell your home you may run into problems when asked if the plumbing is up to code.

Hiring a Qualified Plumber to Repipe Your Home

At Public Service Plumbers, our bonded, insured, and certified plumbers can repipe the typical single family home in three to five days. The method and structure used to repipe a home means minimal disruption of water services to a home, especially if someone is at home during the day. While each job varies, typically, water service is interrupted for less than four hours a day. We work closely with homeowners in order to determine if there are any special requirements that need to be taken into account and always take measures to minimize disruptions to work schedules.

We take every precaution to prevent leaks or water damage and clean up after ourselves each and every day. When repiping, we use technology that allows us to identify optimal placement of piping in drywall and floor joists, taking extra care to avoid damage to walls and flooring. After pipes are place and fitted, access points in ceilings, drywall, and flooring is patched, textured, and painted. In order to ensure each job is done properly, our plumbers complete all work – we do not use subcontractors.
