Septic Tank Sewage Lift Stations

Dallas Fort Worth Metro Sewage and Septic Tank Plumbers

Any septic tank owner knows how important it is to prevent back ups and malfunctions that impede the flow of sewage into the tank. Of particular concern are septic tanks that require wastewater to be moved from a lower elevation to a higher one. Installing a septic system sewage lift station is an effective means for preventing problems associated with drainage while allowing for the building of homes and office buildings below the elevation of the city’s main sewer line.

Septic System Sewage Lift Stations

Sewage lift systems work primarily through pumps and electronic monitoring devices. Connected to a control panel, a trigger installed in a septic tank detects the level of sewage. When liquid sewage in the tank reaches a certain level, the trigger mechanism is activated, initiating pumping operations. At this point, sewage is pumped out of the septic tank and into the main sewer line. Once a sufficient amount of sewage has been pumped out, a trigger mechanism shuts the system off, allowing the tank to begin the process of refilling again. In order to ensure any sewage remaining in the connector pipe doesn’t leak back into tank, an internal valve is activated to seal the tank.

Lift Station Pumps – Durability is Essential

The internal pumps in sewage lift stations must be durable and of the highest quality. Sewage can have a high level of corrosive material in it, along with fats, grease, and oils that lead to blockage and the gumming up of motor functioning. Given that pumps are submerged in liquid comprised of these and other materials means they should be constructed out of bronze, iron, and stainless steel. Given that pumps are typically installed in areas of a tank that are not easily accessible, it’s essential that they be made of the best, most durable materials.

Issues to consider in relation to Sewage Lift Stations

There are certain issues associated with lift stations that should be taken into consideration. First, since lift stations transport sewage when it reaches a certain level in the septic tank, unpleasant odors can be a permanent challenge. Secondly, since sewage produces different kinds of gas, malfunctions can lead to underground explosions and damage to sewer lines should toxicity reach certain levels.

In order to reduce the likelihood of the problems occurring, chemical additives is recommended, along with the use of deodorants and scented products.
